Project Goals

The R.E.L. Community Center sustained damage from Hurricanes Florence and Michael to its roof and exterior walls.

In conjunction with a National Park Service Disaster Assistance Grant, administered by the Virginia Department of Historic Resources, CPG was asked to complete a Preliminary Architectural Report that evaluated the building condition after these storms.

Project Design

The Preliminary Report was provided to the town of Chase City to inform its scope of work and contractor selection.

CPG also oversaw a repair prioritization and cost analysis prepared by Colliers International. Priority areas consisted of exterior walls, windows, the roof, and chimney; the project team also identified key repairs beyond the budgeted disaster recovery scope to assist the Town in securing additional funding and for future repairs.

Challenges & Accomplishments

CPG's report was just the initial step in ensuring the longevity of this historic resource.

CPG has continued to support the Town by providing guidance on the detailed means and methods proposed by the selected construction team to ensure all repairs will meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation.
