Recent modern insertions had completely changed the character of this former tractor sales and storage building: the historic storefront had been covered up and the double-height space had been split into two floors.

Project Goals
This building was renovated for continued commercial use, removing modern finishes and features and reinstating the historic configuration of both the interior and exterior of the building.
Project Design
Extensive historic research had to be conducted to determine the historic configuration of the interior of the building and to guide the design of the reinstated historic storefront.
In addition to research, remaining historic materials informed the final design of this commercial building, including exposed brick walls and concrete structure and patterned hexagon tile floors.
Challenges & Accomplishments
Limited pictorial evidence was available to inform the design of the reinstated historic facade.
Careful examination of a single historic photograph, in which the majority of the facade is obscured by a streetcar, provided the details necessary to match the historic appearance.
